How to Choose Your Word of the Year
One of my favorite New Year traditions is choosing a theme word for the year.
It is one small word with a big job. It gently guides me, inspires me, and brings me back to what matters as I move through the months ahead.
A focus word is a simple way to begin the year with intention. It gives you a steady reminder of what you want to practice, strengthen, release, or welcome into your life.
To find your word, take time to reflect on the year ahead.
Ask yourself:
What do I want more of this year?
What do I want less of?
Where do I want to grow?
What habit do I want to strengthen?
What feeling do I want to carry with me?
What value do I want to return to when life feels busy?
After you spend time reflecting, choose one word to represent your hopes for the new year.
Your word might be confidence, peace, courage, gratitude, joy, resilience, focus, simplify, flourish, or trust.
Once you choose your word, write it down. Place it somewhere you will see it often. Put it on your mirror, in your journal, on your desk, or as a reminder in your phone.
